Introducing Kevin Lewis

Kevin Lewis is an emerging abstract artist whose bold and expressive compositions explore an inner world. Colour is at the heart of his practice, with its interactions, contrasts, and harmonies carefully orchestrated to generate unexpected combinations that are at once playful, calming, and uplifting. His paintings offer an emotional response to the world, translated into colour and form.

Colour is Kevin’s central language. He works with its rhythms, interactions, contrasts, and harmonies, pushing combinations until they delight. His paintings begin with emotion: maps of feeling translated into colour and form rather than image or narrative.

Kevin sees the work as landscapes of his inner world. Each painting is a response to feelings, memories and thoughts. He enjoys the process of creating and observing the emergence of something new. He remains open to what materialises as it develops: the relationships between colours, the moments where the painting shows him something unforeseen.

The work of Gerhard Richter, Ellsworth Kelly, Bridget Riley, and Agnes Martin has helped shape how Kevin thinks about painting. Whatever form the work takes, he wants it to leave the viewer with calmness and curiosity, and insight into their own inner worlds.
