Introducing Catherine Nicholas

Catherine’s work explores mythology and folklore, drawing inspiration from European and Scandinavian folk art traditions. She particularly interested in reinterpreting ancient myths and stories, giving them a contemporary perspective that connects past and present. Through pattern, symbolism, and narrative, she aims to create work that feels both rooted in tradition and relevant to modern life.

Catherine graduated from the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2002. Since then, she has lived and worked in Sydney, Seoul, and London, and now resides in rural Suffolk, where she teaches Art at secondary level. She works from her studio at home, surrounded by the landscape that continually inspires her, alongside her loyal Creative Assistant, Neville, a German Shorthaired Pointer who keeps a close watch on proceedings.
